About Brick House

Brick House Tile Co., Inc. was established in 1984 in Keene, New Hampshire by Alice M. Toepfer. Alice's mission was to purchase the finest ceramic tile from around the world and to educate her community about its beauty and longevity. Alice, who turned 65 that year, had spent her life raising five boys and now wanted to create her own business. When her husband and all of her friends were getting ready to retire, Alice and her son John Q. Toepfer created The Brick House Tile Co. Alice had experienced the frustration of buying ceramic tile locally first hand during a remodeling project, and she knew that if people could see the exquisite tile choices available she would have no problem selling it.

Located in an old brick farm house built in 1860, Brick House Tile Co. has seven showrooms displaying the finest ceramic tile collected since 1984. The staff is trained to assist in designing your dream project and to making sure that you leave the store satisfied. We at Brick House Tile Co. Inc believe in treating our customer right and we will continue to live by the values that Alice founded this company on.

Cider Press Tile is the newest addition to the Brick House Tile family. As of January 2009 BHT acquired Cider Press Tile from Matthew Barnes, who created Cider Press Tile in 1998 and has been making beautiful hand made tile ever since. Located in Portland Maine, Cider Press became well known for its crawling glazes, which complements its high fired tiles, to the rich matte glazes that reverberates the shades of the Earth. Cider Press is also well known for its customer service and willingness to go the extra mile for its customers, something that coincides completely with the guiding principles of Brick House Tile. Nothing will change on that front as we will continue the traditions and policies set forth by Matthew Barnes.
